NVQ
An NVQ is a work based qualification where the employer is required to allow an assessor to enter the workplace where they can observe work practices, and subsequently compile reports to meet the standards set by the examining body, providing the learner is working at, and capable of reaching the NVQ standards.
The learner will also be required to gather evidence from the work place (with regards to confidentially* at work, any names and addresses of clients etc will be blanked out before the evidence is used). The learner will be required to compile written reports on work that they have completed. Another good method of providing evidence for the NVQ is for the employer to provide Witness Testimonies in which they state that the learner is competent in areas relating to the NVQ, this is of course providing that the learner is competent with work.
An NVQ at level 2 is the equivalent or 5 GCSE’s. Level 3 is the equivalent of 2 A levels. The NVQ provides learners with a good knowledge of working systems and encourages them to think about their development within their workplace. We encourage students to take the initiative and have a sense of pride in their work.
*Confidentiality is most import to us and we work strictly within the guidelines of the Data Protection Act. We have many students in placements where confidentiality is paramount, i.e. doctors surgeries, solicitors etc.
